Xerces Society - Water-Wise Gardening: Xeriscaping for Invertebrates
Thursday, October 22nd | 10:00am - 11:00am | Webinar - Registration Required
Join us to take a deep dive into xeriscaping: landscaping for dry conditions that reduces irrigation and inputs while conserving water, soil, and time. Kaitlin Hasse, Xerces Pollinator Conservation Specialist in the Southwest, and Elliott Gordon, Xerces Ambassador and gardening extraordinaire, explain how it can be applied in any region and discuss some of the benefits and challenges, including the mindset shift and slow growth of desert natives. They will cover key considerations beyond plant choice—observing microhabitats, soil type, sun exposure, water flow, rainwater harvesting, mulch, and leaving plant litter—while balancing mulching with ground-nesting bee habitat by keeping some bare soil. Stewardship Saturday in Swan Canyon
